Abstract
A study was carried out to find the pH, COD, BOD, SS and heavy metals in lake and stream of Suwon Area and to know the status of water pollution level. The samples were collected in the lakes at 8points and streams 7 points of Suwon Area, from September 20 to November 20, 1983.
As the result of this study, the following conclusions were obtained:
1. The average for lake was 7.1 of pH in 8 sampling points the highest of pH was found at Kwangkyo and Seoho (7.3), the lowest at Ilwol (6.9).
The average for stream was 7.1 of pH. In 7 sampling points the highest of pH was found at Seiryu-dong (7.3), the lowest at Poyng-dong (6.8).
2. The average concentration for lake was 13.8ppm of COD. The highest concentration of COD was determined at Arai Bang Juk (23ppm) while the lowest at Kwangkyo (3ppm).
The average concentration for stream was 99.3ppm of COD. The highest concentration of COD was determined Youngwha-dong (128ppm) while the lowest at Younmu-dong and Seodun-dog (74ppm)
3. The highest concentration of BOD in lake was 13ppm at Arai Bang Juk while the lowest was 1ppm at Kwangkyo. The average concentration for lake was 8.3ppm of BOD.
The highest concentration of BOD in stream was 102ppm at Guicheon-dong while the lowest was 59ppm at Poyng-dong. The average concentration for stream was 82.6ppm of BOD.
4. The average concentration for lake was 31.4ppm of SS.
The highest concentration of SS was found 46ppm at Arai Bang Juk while the lowest was detected at Kwangkyo (l6ppm) The average concentration for stream was 131. 1ppm of SS. The highest concentration of SS was determined at Namchang-dong (205ppm) while the lowest at Seodun-dong (84ppm)
5. In the lake concentration of heavy metals are relatively low and streams more polluted by heavy metals. The concentration of three heavy metals (Pb, Cr, As) among six were not find in the lake and only one heavy metal (As) among six was not find in the stream.
6. The range for lake was 0~0.04ppm of Copper, 0.01~0.08ppm of Iron and 0~0.04ppm of Zinc.
7. The range for stream was 0.01~0.13ppm of Copper, 0~0.04ppm of Total Chrome, 0.31~ 0.84Ppm of Iron and 0.02~0.04ppm of Zinc.
